Trip of a Lifetime
My oldest son has just returned from a tour of Europe. He went alone. Without his mama. Who missed him very much and hugged him too tightly as he emerged from Customs.
On top of La Tour Eiffel
He is full of tales of people and places. And seems much older than when he left. When he talks, it's about a world that's slightly smaller now. And adults are just tall kids who just decided that they could. And did.
He is making plans.
We are laughing at his hilarious stories and poring over photos of the places he visited.
Here's one of them, taken while doing the ubiquitous bus tour of London that we all do on our first visit.

As he explained to us -
"...this is some random cathedral we drove past..."
I love sixteen year olds.
It is lovely that your baby is home for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI love how travel both expands and shrinks our world view.
ReplyDeleteIt will be wonderful for you to share much of this new perspective with your boy as he gradually unravels his adventure and experiences with you.
How fabulous to have him home for Christmas.
Happy days to all in the Catch household.
xx
How wonderful that your baby came home safe & sound for Christmas! And how wonderful to have such an adventure at the ripe age of 16!

What a good looking kid and what a great experience! He'll never for get the things he saw and someday he'll look back and think of this as "an awesome" random cathedral that he saw...lol!
ReplyDeleteThat's great that he had this opportunity. I bet he is making plans for more travel and adventure! I remember when my #2 Son left for his 2yr. mission for our Church. He lived in Taiwan and learned Chinese. He left as a young teen...19 and came home older, wiser and also very appreciative of his home and family. It shaped his life in many ways. I was just happy to have him back! Have a great Christmas!
ReplyDeleteGosh he's a gorgeous young man Mrs C! It must have been such a mixture of pride and relief collecting your boy at the airport. I love that he got to visit some 'random cathedral' - that's gold.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and yours. Hope you have a wonderful holiday period.
P.S. It was an absolute pleasure to meet you the other day xx
Gosh. He IS grown up and handsome... how strange and wonderful to think that will be our Dash someday.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Catch family!
:-)
