Sunday Selections: The Faces Edition.

I love taking photos of people.  Faces fascinate me.

But, rather than have people pose stiffly, I prefer to just mill with the crowd and look for opportunity.

And that sets a challenge.  There's no mucking about with settings.  You have to be able to whip that camera round and know what you need in a millisecond.  One thing I find helpful is to set the camera to take a series of rapid shots.  A solitary shot can catch someone as they open their mouth to speak or as they brush hair out of their face.  A series means that you have a choice and there's usually one that's presentable.  Works well with large groups too.

I'm going to take a portrait course soon.  But I want to get a good lens for it first.  The right equipment makes an enormous difference.

Don't forget to pop over to Veronica at Someday We Will Sleep and leave some comments.  She's hosting for Kim tonight.  I love her tawny frogmouths, three in a row.  You don't get a photo like that every day.

  1. Thank you for stopping by Catbird Scout. Your photos are lovely, as are your words. I'll be back for more.

  2. Lovely, real faces. I prefer taking pictures of people who act naturally, too. Sometimes you can catch some priceless expressions.

I know Captcha is a pain. I've had to re-instate it until I figure out what else to do about anonymous spam.
